"I think Grant got me by about 30
in the first test," said Steward. "So,
because it was so slick out there, I
decided to start riding a little less ag-
gressive and in a really tall gear. Luckily,
we were able to chip away at the lead.
Then Grant got stuck in the last test, so
I knew I just had to cruise it in.
"After the first test, things started
clicking for me," Steward added. "The
track got a little more physically de-
manding and really technical as the rain
kept coming down, and I think that the
nastier the conditions got, the better I
was riding throughout the day. I made a
few changes as far as goggles and line
selection, and things started to pay off.
Beta USA's Cody Barnes battled with
Tely Energy Racing KTM's Liam Draper
for the final step of the podium. Just
like Grant Baylor, a mistake—a mental
mistake—by Draper opened the door for
Barnes to claim third.
