MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 3 / JUNE 1, 2019 THUNDER VALLEY RACEWAY / LAKEWOOD, CALIFORNIA P64 iii My Own Race: 32 JUSTIN COOPER 2ND (1-2) 250MX "The riding was awesome," Justin Cooper said of his day. "It was a big day for me. I wasn't the greatest in qualifying, so to come out and win the first moto, get the holeshot in the second moto and lead until I made that mistake and crashed is really confidence boosting. Everyone is saying I'm a moto-two guy, but that hasn't been the case. It just hasn't worked out in my favor both times. I put myself in good positions right off the start. To be able to come through the pack the first moto and then the second moto get the holeshot and kind of lead until I made that mistake is awesome. To even make that chargeā€”I went back to third, passed my teammate and made a charge on Adam at the end and got to his back wheel. Everything is kind of clicking right now. 36 MICHAEL MOSIMAN 3RD (4-3) 250MX Michael Mosiman has been picking up speed all year, leading supercross races, and now dramatically improving outdoors. At not quite yet 20 years old, he's among the fastest young guys out there right now. He was charging in Colorado and grabbed his first outdoor po- dium. "Man, it feels so good just to have that monkey off my back," Mosiman said. "To hit the podium, and now, just the confidence that brings, and to know that I can do it is super, super awesome. Man, to ride with these guys, we are absolutely shredding out there." 103 DEAN FERRIS 8TH (6-9) 450MX The Aussie import, filling in at the Monster Energy Yamaha team for injured Aaron Pless- inger, made some significant improvements in Colorado. In moto one, he ran fourth for most of the moto before losing a couple spots to Jason Anderson and Eli Tomac in the final laps, and then he battled it out for a top-10 in the second moto as well. "Big improvements for me today," he said. "I got two reasonably good starts, and kind of got pulled along with the big group. We made improvements with the bike. I'm somewhat comfortable now and feel like we're getting the train on the tracks now for the rest of the season. The conditions were demanding, the track was really rutted and rough as usual, but I liked it." 16 ZACH OSBORNE 3RD (2-4) 450MX Zach Osborne wasn't happy with his riding in Colorado but still managed to put up his best- ever 450MX finish with a second in the opening moto and third overall. "Obviously, getting an overall podium is a good result, but I feel like this was kind of the worst riding I've done all season," Osborne said. "I just rode really timid and tight and not my best all day. My starts were really good, and I was able to put myself in a good position. I don't know if I was not mentally ready to be there or what, but I got to figure that out. I feel much better about my starts moving forward, and I think it's going to be one of those deals where I just have to find my feet at the beginning of the race a little bit quicker, and I can make some headway." 2 COOPER WEBB 6TH (3-8) 450MX Cooper Webb is still working on getting his bike dialed for the outdoors. After scoring third in the opening moto, he acknowledged his struggle with settings. "It's been tough," he said. "We've been trying something new every practice and every time I'm on the track, so we're getting a little carried away. We'll probably stick to what we know and figure it all out next week. In moto two, I made a bike change that wasn't good at all, and I really struggled. It was a tough day, but we have two weeks now to try to get better and start the East Coast nationals off on a better note." 196 HUNTER LAWRENCE 8TH (10-7) 250MX Hunter Lawrence wasn't quite as dazzling as he was the previous week at Pala. "Mile High city was tough, but the start of the day wasn't too bad, qualified P5," Lawrence said. "First moto, I had a bad start, got shut down by two blue bikes up the hill and had my work cut out for me. I fought from way back, so I had used all my tear-offs by the time I reached sixth place. I was struggling to see with the rain that started coming down. I went to make the pass and went down, finished 10th. The second moto was a struggle, with the altitude my body was feeling it. I got a little bit better start, around midpack and got up to seventh."
