Bart Markel held off Dick Mann and Gary Nixon to win the Louisville Downs
National Championship Half Mile… Jim Wilson won the Saddleback 500
motocross, which included Gary Bailey and Tim Hart in the field.
We featured a preview of the 500cc U.S. Grand Prix of Motocross at
Carlsbad Raceway… Steve Wise out-dueled Jimmy Weinert to win the
10th round of the AMA/Toyota Supercross Series at the Superdome in
New Orleans. Bob Hannah clinched the Supercross title for the third
time… We featured a story on Laurens Offner of Laurens Offner Products,
aka LOP, a company that sponsored, among others, LOP Racing Team's
Marty Moates, who would help make the company famous… Team USA
transferred to the semis at the British World Cup Qualifier Speedway in
Reading, England.
