Alex Criville was pictured on the cover 20 years ago for winning the
French Grand Prix at Le Castellet… Scott Parker ended his two-race
slump with a victory at the Harrington Half Mile in Delaware… We
tested the new 1999 KTM Duke II… CN Editor Paul Carruthers visited
with injured racer Mick Doohan following his big crash at Jerez two
weeks earlier… We covered the 24-Hour Off-Road Endurance World
Championships at Plaster City West OHV Area in California. The
Johnny Campbell-captained Honda Team took the victory.
Flat track, motocross, and road racing were highlighted on the cover
of Cycle News 30 years ago… Scott Parker broke through and won
the San Jose Mile after 17 top-10 finishes… We covered the AMA
National MX at Southwick. Larry Ward took first overall in the 125cc
class, and Jeff Stanton topped the 250cc class. It was Ward's first
career nation win… Pier-Francesco Chili also won his first-ever
World Championship Road Race at Misano… Larry Roeseler won
the Virginia City Grand Prix.
