MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 2 / MAY 25, 2019 FOX RACEWAY / PALA, CALIFORNIA P70 didn't seem to be making up much ground. But then, all of a sudden, Tomac caught fire, passed Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) for fourth, then struggled for the next six laps to get by Jason Anderson (Rock- star Energy Husqvarna). Once by Anderson for third, Tomac im- mediately caught the lead battle that had developed between Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM) and Roczen. Then, Tomac made short work of them both with three laps left to go in the race to take the lead and take off, winning the moto by almost four seconds in front of Roczen and Musquin, with Anderson taking fourth and Zach Osborne (Rockstar Energy In the 250MX class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Adam Cianciarulo managed to grab the win for the second week in a row, but he had to fight for it. Tomac and Cianciarulo made it a green day with a Kawasaki sweep. 450MX Blake Baggett (Rocky Mountain ATV-MC KTM) got the holeshot in the first 450MX moto, but top qualifier Roczen took the lead away immediately and began to pull away. Baggett fell a couple laps later, and Tomac ended up hanging around in about fifth place for the first half of the race and ROUGH DAY In an uncharacteristic perfor- mance, Blake Baggett grabbed two holeshots but couldn't capital- ize on either one of them. Instead, he went 33-14. Baggett went down hard on lap three of the first moto while running second. He still finished the race but a lap down. In the second moto, he was still feeling the effects of his first-moto crash and slowly went backward throughout the race. NEW GUARD? Geico Honda's new import Hunter Lawrence announced his arrival at Fox Raceway with a second-moto battle for the lead against even- tual winner Adam Cianciarulo. The performance was even more remarkable when you consider he had the 37th gate pick in the moto. Why? Because of a mechanical. "We had some bad luck," said team manager Danny Betley. "Hunter was on track, and he kind of jumped down into a rut that was already there, and from the video that we saw, there was already a fairly large rock in the line, and when he landed, the engine hit that rock and then dislodged it, so you could see it kind of come free after he went by. But, unfortunately, it took out the bottom of the cover that holds the oil filter in, and that area's pressurized, which is basically like cutting an artery, and oil ran out in probably about 20 seconds. Game over." Lawrence's bike locked up on a downhill while he and Jordon Smith were battling over third place, and they both went down. Briefly... Ken Roczen (94), here battling with Musquin, got off to a fast start by leading the first 450MX moto but couldn't hold on to it.
