VOL. 56 ISSUE 21 MAY 28, 2019 P67
K
TM introduced its 2020 EXC-F
range of dual sport motorcycles,
which get a major overhaul for
the new model year. Beyond the new
graphics and bodywork, the 2020 KTM
350 EXC-F and 450 EXC-F share many
changes to both their engines and chas-
sis. (No word yet on the 250 EXC-F.)
Highlights include a new frame that
KTM says has been developed in "col-
laboration with KTM factory racers [that]
features improved stiffness for outstand-
ing handling and straight-line stability."
There are new aluminum head stays for
improved engine fixation, and a 40mm
longer subframe, which KTM says pro-
vides improved rear-fender stability.
A new exhaust system is more com-
pact and shorter for better mass cen-
tralization, and there is a new two-piece
header design for improved performance
and easier mounting.
There is also a new stronger and
lighter lithium-ion battery.
Radiators are redesigned for improved
cooling, and the cylinder head is 200
grams lighter and features new flow-opti-
mized ports for improved engine perfor-
mance. There is a new piston, reworked
crankshaft, lighter engine cases, and a
new six-speed transmission that's been
beefed up.
Both the WP XPLOR fork and WP
XPLOR rear shock (PDS) have been
updated, as well. CN
