LOOKING BACK
A cartoon depicted an incident that happened when motorcyclists got
together to clean up a popular rider area in California, called Bean
Canyon, when, at the end of the day, the land-owner/sheep herder
kicked everyone out and closed off the land to off-road riding… We
covered the Burr Oak National Enduro in Rockford, Illinois. John Penton
was the overall winner… We had coverage of the AMA National Flat Track
in Cumberland, Maryland, where Mert Lawwill came away with the win.
We tested the 1979 Suzuki GS850G, which was pictured on the cover
of Cycle News 40 years ago… We featured coverage of the San Jose
Mile. Steve Eklund came away with the win… The FIM 500cc MX Series
got underway in Sittendorf, Austria, where Graham Noyce took the win.
Kawasaki-mounted Brad Lackey won the second moto and finished out
the day second overall… In Holland, Hakan Carlqvist won the 250cc
World Championship Motocross round. Marty Moates competed but
injured his knee in the first moto.
