LOOKING BACK
We had a little bit of everything, including Evel Knievel, on the cover of
Cycle News 50 years ago… One of our featured race stories included
our coverage of the 3rd Annual Lonesome Pine 100-Mile Enduro in
Abingdon, Virginia. John Young topped the 255-rider-strong field,
which included John Penton... Russ Darnell gave us an update on
his progress in Europe, where he was spending the season racing
motocross… In the California desert, Larry Bergquist gave his Buzzards
M.C. club a victory on his 360cc Bultaco.
Jack Johnson was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago.
He and Larry Roeseler teamed up and won the Las Vegas 400. The duo
finished ahead of the Scot Harden/Brent Wallingsford team by just
two minutes… We had our coverage of the 125/250cc National MX from
Omaha Moto Sport Park in Nebraska. Broc Glover (125cc) and Bob
Hannah (250cc) crushed the competition—again… We covered the Two-
Day ISDT Qualifier from California City. Jim Fishback took the win riding
a Yamaha IT 400.
