CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 56 ISSUE 15 APRIL 16, 2019 P65 work to get my lower back moving. I'm definitely riding in a lot of pain, but I'm getting through it. I feel like I will be better for that, as soon as I'm back to 100 percent health!" EARLY START To accommodate NBCSN's cover- age of the NHL hockey playoffs, the Denver Supercross ran one hour earlier than initially planned, with the night program starting at 5 p.m. locally. "I actually liked today's schedule," Honda HRC's Cole Seely said. "It wasn't super early like when we do day races, but be- ing done by 8:30 was really nice. I wouldn't mind all the races starting an hour early." COLD GUARDS Ken Roczen, once again, fitted his factory Honda CRF450R Works Edition with hand guards, not to protect his hands from flying rocks but from the cold air. Briefly... 250SX West Cianciarulo (Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit Kawasaki) came into Denver—the penultimate round of the 250SX West Supercross Series—with a five-point lead over Ferrandis (Monster Energy/ Star Racing Yamaha). Ferrandis came into Denver controlling his own destiny: If he won the final two rounds, he would win the championship. However, the story of Ferrandis's season is that his starts need to be a lot better. That story carried through in Denver, as Ferrandis started at the tail end of the top five and could only man- age to catch up to second at the finish, behind Cianciarulo, who dominated the main event—at least after he was finally able to get by Michael Mosiman (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) for the lead during the first half of the race. "It's crazy," Cianciarulo said. "At altitude here, we have to start in first gear, which we're not usu- ally used to, which means, for me, I have to shift to second real- ly fast—especially being a little bit of a bigger guy. The problem with that is trying to get my foot on the peg while still staying forward, so I have to either double-clutch or wheelie. So, the first obstacle was to get the start out of the way, and, man, Michael Mosi- man's been riding really good the last couple weeks. Shout out to him. Man, he really battled me for that win—a little bit more than I wanted to! But it's great to see him not scared and not backing down out there. But I feel like I'm always at my best when my back's against the wall, and I couldn't be more proud of myself, couldn't be more proud of the team, and we've got one more to go. I've got a good record in Vegas, so I'm really confident there, but I've got to keep the foot on the pedal. But I'm not going to lie, it's good to get this one off my chest, for sure. It was a great night all around." Adam Cianciarulo scored a big win in the 250SX West main.
