Gerston Leads Beta Sweep At Shasta Dam Grand Prix B eta riders topped all three Pro classes at the Shasta Dam Grand Prix, hosted by the Red- ding Dirt Riders, at the Shasta- Chappie Off-Highway Vehicle Area, April 13-14. It was round four of the Kenda/SRT AMA West Hare Scrambles Regional Cham- pionship Series, Presented by MojoMotorsport.com. Max Gerston (Beta), the 2017 series champ, showed no signs of slowing down as he went practically wire to wire in a seem- ingly effortless rout to become the first two-time winner of the season. Gray Area KTM's Devan Bolin surprised himself on the relatively fast and long (a nearly 30-mile loop) course to claim a strong second, while Gerston's teammate Joe Wasson came from an uncharacteristic dead-last start and rallied back to third. Gerston thus stretched his points lead over Wasson, 110-88. Bolin's runner-up finish moved him past Beta-supported Zane Roberts for third in points, 64-56. Roberts won Pro 250 for the third straight round despite a time-consuming off-course blunder that saw him lucky to finish fifth overall. Though AMA District 36 local AJ Lehr got the holeshot on his KTM, his lead was short-lived, as he fell a few turns into the race. Gerston was perfectly posi- tioned to take advantage of that on his Motul/FMF/Klim-backed 430 RR, and that was the closest anyone got for the remainder of the race that went three laps and took the winner three hours, one minute and 40 seconds. "I'm not necessarily famous for getting good starts and when you finally get one, it's almost weird feeling," Gerston said. "It's almost like, 'Cool; I'm out front—now what do I do?'
