Argubright, Oliveira Split AMA West ISDE Qualifier Wins J acob Argubright may not know how to change tires by using the popular Raboconda machine yet (he prefers good old tire irons method), but he certainly knows how to charge in the desert. The Off-Road Support/TBT Racing Kawasaki privateer stormed to the overall win on the first day of round one in the AMA West Region ISDE Qualifier Series hosted by the Lost Coyotes Motorcycle Club at the Wagon Wheel Off-Highway Vehicle Area in Red Mountain, California, March 30-31. He won five of the six tests on the first day for a total time of 49 minutes, 42.841 seconds, putting him comfortably ahead of GasGas factory rider JT Baker whose times added up to 52:05.827. FMF/ Maxxis/RPM Racing KTM's Dante Oliveira scored 52:45.699 for third overall on the first day. However, Oliveira proved to be a quick learner of the area's desert terrain and topped the standings on the second day, which was the $1000-plus payday for the Pros and AA riders, his time for the same six tests being 47:39.496. Argubright settled for second fastest on the day at 47:46.644, though his total time for the weekend was still the best. Baker slipped to fourth at 49:49.693 behind Purvines Racing Yamaha rider Nick Burson who clocked 49:43.318, the day's third-fastest time. Run in more of a sprint enduro format instead of a regular Quali- fier (no surprise as the race was round two of the AMA District 37 Sprint Enduro Racing Series), the club tried to mimic the feel of Six Days with a closed impound after Saturday. There was a 15-minute work period before each day, and three riders per minute left the start in the morning according to points or previous day's position. But it was still the desert, and Argubright took advantage of it right away. "This one's like normal desert for me—it's nothing new," the Kawasaki of Simi Valley/ IN THE WIND P28 Jacob Argubright felt right at home in the desert near Red Mountain, winning the first day at the opening round of the AMA West Region ISDE Qualifier Series.
