SUPERCROSS
ROUND 12 / MARCH 23, 2019
CENTURYLINK FIELD / SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
P60
MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS
a good start, and my teammate
crashed in front of me, so I took
the lead. I just was leading the
main, and it was new for me a
little bit. It has not happened to
me a lot this year, and last year,
too. I struggled a little bit to try
not to make mistakes, and just
"It was tough," Ferrandis said.
"It took me three years in Amer-
ica to finally get my first win. It
was really long, but finally I did
it, and it wasn't easy, because
I'm always the hunter; I take bad
starts and have to come back
to the front, but this time I took
then I think I was next to Colt in that
first lane, and he hooked a right—on
accident, I would assume—and he
jumped on the same hand Forkner
jumped on in Atlanta, dude! Bloodied
my knuckles again! I was pissed! But
I survived that, and I kind of had to tell
myself to chill out."
WHOOP STRATEGY
It used to be considered a weakness
for Marvin Musquin that he preferred
jump through whoop sections rather
than skim over the top of—or blitz—
them. Jumping through is usually
more consistent and efficient, but
it's also normally slower. This year,
though, with the way the whoops
have been breaking down, jumping
through them has become a regular
thing for all of the top guys in both
classes, and it's not really something
that they necessarily train for. "It's
definitely coming into play the most
that we've had in the past, and it's like
everyone's doing it and catching on to
it earlier," Tomac said. "It's efficient,
too. I'd prefer to skim, but, once
again, I thought I started jumping too
late again tonight, so it's something
I've got to work on." Ken Roczen
said, "I prefer skimming, obviously,
too, and it's crazy because, after the
first practice, I would've never thought
we would start jumping because they
were not really very jumpable."
SICK AS A DOG
It was a miserable day and evening
for Justin Hill (JGR/Yoshimura/Fac-
tory Suzuki Racing) who was feeling
ill all day and did what he could just
to get 12th in the 450SX main. "I
really struggled all week and on race
day with food poisoning," he said.
"Honestly, the main event was one of
the worst 20 minutes of my life."
Briefly...
Points leader Adam
Cianciarulo was
second but gave
away a few points
to runner-up in the
championship,
Ferrandis.
