Miguel Duhamel outdueled Mat Mladin for the win at the Daytona
200 20 years ago and was pictured on the cover celebrating the big
win on his Honda RC45. "Mr. Daytona," Scott Russell did not compete
after having been assaulted in a Daytona Beach nightclub (Razzles)
in the early morning hours a few days before the race. He suffered
facial fractures and spent the day of the race at his home in Georgia…
Jeremy McGrath won the Daytona Supercross… Will Davis won the
GNC opener at Municipal Stadium.
Jean-Michele Bayle was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 30
years ago for winning the opening round of the outdoor motocross
nationals at Gatorback. It was at this race that Rick Johnson suffered
a broken wrist when he collided with Danny Storbeck during practice.
The injury would ultimately put an end to his racing career. In the 125cc
class, three-digit rider Mike Kiedrowski captured his first ever pro-
class win… Dutchman Racing's
Kevin Rentzell and Dale Quaterley
won the AMA/CCS Endurance
Challenge at Daytona.
