sent racers back over the en-
trance to the same turn, and that
sand section proved to be pivotal
all night. Whoever was in front
would often cover anybody close
behind them in sand, and this in
particular made starts even more
important than usual.
When the gate dropped for
the Atlanta 450SX main event, it
was none other than Webb taking
the holeshot over his Red Bull
KTM teammate Marvin Musquin
and Blake Baggett, with Aaron
Plessinger, Justin Brayton, Ken
Roczen, Tyler Bowers and the
rest of the field giving chase.
"With the way the track was go-
ing to break down, I knew a start
would be important," Webb said.
"And I was able to execute that."
BACK IN ACTION
After being sidelined from last week-
end's Detroit Supercross when he
took a rock to the sternum, Cole Seely
spent the week recovering and finished
Atlanta in the top 10. "Last week was
really tough," said Seely. "My chest was
swollen and every time I tried to engage
my pectoral muscles, they'd cramp up
and I just didn't have the strength to
hang on last weekend. I went home
and did a lot of therapy for three days in
a row. I actually did the cryotherapy and
that helped a lot with the swelling, pain
and even gaining back some range of
motion. I was actually able to hop on
the bike on Tuesday and did a light day
to make sure I could hang on, and then
went hard on Wednesday."
FIRST EAST/WEST
SHOWDOWN
There was talk at the Atlanta Super-
cross that the first-ever East/West
Shootout happened in 1997, which
Kevin Windham won, but there was
one before that. It happened in 1990
and took place at the final round at
the Los Angeles Memorial Coliesum.
That night, the West Region was de-
cided with Ty Davis taking the cham-
pionship. (The East title had already
been decided.) Later that night, the
top 10 riders from the East and West
were pitted against each other in an
East/West Shootout, with $10,000
going to the winner, who turned out
to be Buddy Antunez. Here's a You-
Tube link to that East/West Shootout
which begins at 21:34 into this video.
