LOOKING BACK
Our photo contest winner had his shot put on the cover of Cycle News
50 years ago. Manuel Burton took the photo of Steve Sturgill in
action on his Yamaha flat tracker. Burton also won $10 for being this
month's winner… We covered the Inter-Am motocross from Saddleback
Park. More than 22,000 fans came out to watch Adolf Weil beat all
the Americans (and the Europeans) in a double-moto sweep. The top-
finishing American was Ronnie Nelson, riding a Montesa.
We featured our Christmas Gift Guide in Cycle News 40 years ago. On
the cover was a photo of Mike Bell on Santa's lap trying to convince
the big guy he was good this year… We covered the CMC Four-Stroke
Motocross Nationals from Carlsbad. CCM-mounted Goat Breker
took the Open Pro win over Tim Lunde and Marty Moates… Bernie
Schreiber took the win over Lane Leavitt and Marland Whaley at the
El Trial De Espana at Saddleback Park.
