W H A T Y O U A R E S A Y I N G "I was told that the bike was so utterly broken apart that it came back to the pits as pile of parts on a pallet!" Archives: Springsteen Ends H-D's Drought Great article about a great era. I had the pleasure of seeing "Springer" race a Bultaco at Sante Fe back in the summer of '75 while he was in his rookie year and with Vista Sheen, so he obviously was already used to the two-stroke bikes. As always, Double L [Larry Lawrence] hits it home with this one. Thanks CN and LL for helping us old guys relive a great era! Mike Stuhler Been a "Springer" fan since the beginning. Thanks again, Cycle News. Mac Mclemore Loved watching Jay ride. Truly one of the best ever. Ricky Main Lowside: High & Lows At EICMA 2018 Yamaha, shame on you, and to add insult to injury, will you be expecting us American riders to plunk down a $500 non- refundable security deposit when it is finally released, like the FJR1300 and 1200 Tenere? Remember those insults?! Steve Reid Crevier Inducted to Canadian Motorcycle HOF It was my great pleasure to present Steve with his first-place trophy at Mid-Ohio in 1998 for his win in the 600 SuperSport class that day. He was always very gracious with his fans, mak- ing him a fan favorite wherever he raced. I was also at Daytona that spring when he wiped out the bike in the picture at the kink af- ter the international horseshoe. Absolutely the most spectacular destruction of a racing motorcy- cle I have personally witnessed. Steve came off a lowside, when the bike hit the grass/sand it caught went flipping up about 12 feet up in the air, and exploded when it hit the ground again. The mushroom cloud that rose up from the explosion was some- thing else! I was told that the bike was so utterly broken apart that it came back to the pits as pile of parts on a pallet! Congrats Steve, it was great being a fan of yours and hope to see you again sometime at the races. Alex Rossborough Congrats! As a huge '90s AMA Superbike fan and former club racer in the Canadian scene, there was not a nicer guy to run into, see that smile, shake his hand, and wish him the best. Really, all the Canadians who were part of this scene and su- perbike/supersport glory days played a big part in the enter- tainment and racing we enjoyed back then. Oh Canada! Bob Close Congratulations on your induc- tion to the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame. I was a volunteer pit crewmember in 1998 for Yosh/Suzuki at Daytona and some other AMA Road Race Nationals. You were always a fierce competitor and a fun guy to be around. It was an honor and a real fun time to have worked with you. All the best now and in the future.
