VOL. 55 ISSUE 45 NOVEMBER 13, 2018 P31
been such a long season, with
so many different races. Winning
round one at Extreme XL Lagar-
es feels a lifetime ago. To race
everything from hard enduro,
classic enduro, cross-country
and now beach racing and come
out of it all as the ultimate enduro
champion is amazing."
Lettenbichler was happy to
close out the year in second.
"It's been an amazing year and
to end it as the championship
runner-up is beyond my pre-
season expectations," he said.
"I wasn't sure how things would
be after hurting my thumb at
the Gotland Grand National, but
the adrenalin has kept the pain
away."
As for the Red Bull Knock Out
race itself, Nathan Watson used
his enduro skills in the afternoon
extreme X-Loop to beat grand
prix motocrosser Glenn Colden-
hoff for the victory. The win also
vaulted him up to third in the final
WESS standings.
"I am so happy to win Red Bull
Knock Out and end WESS third
overall," Watson said. "This is a
race I've been looking forward
to all year and I came here to
win. To get the job done is an
amazing feeling, especially after
finishing runner-up the last two
editions. I did put myself under a
lot of pressure coming here—ev-
eryone had me down as the fa-
vorite—but anything can happen,
especially in beach races. I was
ill last week and I didn't expect to
be so strong, but the whole race
went perfectly. Glenn got away
really fast at the beginning, but I
knew if I held on, I should come
strong at the end.
"I can't thank the team
enough, it's been a seriously
tough year for me and I've
learned a lot. To jump up to third
overall in the WESS champion-
ship is incredible—it's the icing
on the cake for me."
Spain's Josep Garcia (KTM)
ended up fourth in the WESS
Championship, while Taddy
Blazusiak (KTM) rounded out the
top five. CN
