P16 IN THE WIND shev (winner of the last round in Germany) and Cairoli's teammate Max Nagl for second in the first moto – and it was the best ontrack action of the day. Frossard would eventually finish second. Frossard then rode to a distant second later in the afternoon as the plastic chain runner on the swingarm broke, giving the French rookie cause for concern. Bobryshev picked up his third podium in front of a decent helping of partisan support from across the border in Russia. Desalle, meanwhile, crashed twice in the first moto and was ninth. "I am really satisfied and I feel I am getting better and faster week after week," said Cairoli. "It was not easy to change lines out there and I think the track was in better shape last year. I feel motivated at the moment and I'm having fun on the bike and with the battles on the track." Roczen's fourth straight victory was fairly un-dramatic. Herlings had smashed his face on the bars during an incident in practice that led to a cut cheek, but the Dutchman was undeterred and fast to recover from a first-corner crash and last position to the third spot behind Tommy Searle in moto one. Searle attacked the track in his first visit to Kegums and took the last spot on the podium. In doing so he halted Gautier Paulin's string of six podiums, but the French factory Yamaha ace was the cause of his undoing after a crash in moto one; he would end 14-26 Wind.indd 16 KTM's Ken Roczen won the MX2 class at the Latvian Grand Prix. up eighth overall. The Virginian coped well and rode to fifth to be the top Yamaha rider of the day. "I am feeling better day by day and yesterday was the fittest I felt in a few weeks," he said. "I seem to take a few steps forward and then back, forward and then back. I'll be fighting through the rest of the year. Seven-five is not bad today, but I think I am capable of two top fives every weekend no matter how sick I am." Adam Wheeler HAYES PERPLEXED M onster Energy Graves Yamaha's Josh Hayes has the most to lose from the unexpected cancellation of the Virginia International Raceway AMA Superbike weekend. The defending National Champion now has two less races, pending a decision on a final round, to overcome an 11-point deficit, 279-290, to Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Blake Young. With only three races remaining, one this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and the second at New Jersey Motor- sports Park, the gap is far from insurmountable. But Hayes has had his worst combined results the past two race weekends, scoring 44 points at both Barber and Mid-Ohio, while Young has been ascendant, winning two of the last four races to put him back on top for the first time since he swept the Daytona doubleheader. With Hayes having two wins to Young's six, Hayes would lose on the first tie-breaker - number of victories - if the series has only three more races even if he wins them all. 7/18/11 4:20 PM
