LOOKING BACK
Cycle News was concerned what the AMA had planned for us
motorcyclists in its upcoming Congress agenda. We asked our readers
what they thought the AMA should do and featured an interview with AMA
President Bill Bagnall… Fred Nix moved into the AMA National points
lead with his win at the Oklahoma City 9-Mile National… We covered
the Grand Canyon Gypsy Tour road ride that attracted 342 riders from
around the country… Larry Bergquist rode his 250cc Bultaco to victory
at the 100's M.C. 100-mile hare scrambles in Lucerne Valley, California.
The 1978 AMA Grand National Championship/Camel Pro Series was
decided at the final race at Ascot Park and when all was said and done, Jay
Springsteen edged out Steve Eklund for the title, his fourth of his career…
Bob Hannah celebrated his 22nd birthday at Buchanan, Michigan's
RedBud Track 'n Trail and won round two of the Trans-AMA Series with a 1-1
sweep… We interviewed 500cc AMA Motocross Champion Rick Burgett…
We took a close-up look at Marty Moates' LOP Suzuki RM125C MXer.
