Ho wever . he a lso co u ld not mat ch Wil son 's downhill speed . As the third and fina l round of th e hillclimb sta rred, mos. or th e rid ers were primed to go for br ok e, as o n ly each ride r's two bot times wo uld co unt towards th eir total (or the da y. \Vilson threw ca utio n to th e wind o n hi s fin al run as he knew that h is lead would be ha rd lO o verco me. if not im possible. He then went o u t a nd set a nothe r record tim e of 4:03. \\·il son 's th ird run was II seco nds faster than his first , and secured hi s o vera ll win by over 10 seco nds for a total tim e of 8:11 for two runs. Dana Boyer a nd Edd Price had a very exciting duel for to p WSRA member at the hillclimb. Boyer's first run wa s a n outstanding 3:57. Price fo llowed wi th a 4:09. Boyer and Price both went Cor it all o n th eir second run. Boyer cu t two seco nds off h is first turn o n his Yama ha YZ360. but fell o n the wa y dow n. However. he sti ll ended up with a respecta ble time of 4:01. Pri ce's second run u p the hill was not as cautio us as he set the fastest time' of the day up and down the hill wi th a 3:54. Alt hough Darland finish ed 10 seco nds behi nd Mi ller after 125 mi les of hand lebar to-hand leba r ra ci ng, th e three time ADRA cha m p bagged his fourth co nsecu tive num ber o ne plate aboard a Tucson ATV prepared AI Baker H on da XR 600 averaging 54.43 m ph . Darland led off at th e sta rt followed by Mark Mill er. J im Thompson and Garth Sweetland. Racers made a 30-mile loop thro ugh th e local mountains before head in g south for Rock y Po in t. Mill er powered by Darland and led early on but Sweetland had Miller in h is sights and passed him afte r a len g th y pit stop. Sweetland poured o n th e coa ls afte r check fo ur to extend h is lead over Darland and Miller. who were ba ttlin g it out be hi nd him , but Sweetla nd enco unt er ed tra n smissio n problems a nd pulled o rr th e course, Dar land and Miller swa pped the lead several tim es with what Miller called " rid ing wa yover ou r heads," Mill er 's two-stroke pulled the deep sand better than Darl and 's [our-stroke and he used th at small advantage to edge o ut Darland.
