VOL. 55 ISSUE 38 SEPTEMBER 25, 2018 P41 third through sixth, respectively, to earn slots in the main event. The top four riders from each of the above heat races faced off in head-to-head bracket races. The winner earns a bonus point and first gate pick for the main event. With the points leader Haaker not in the brackets, it was Webb's opportunity to gain a point on his rival, but Tremaine, who is from nearby Gardnerville, Nevada, managed to get the win in front of his home fans by edg- ing out Webb in the final bracket race. However, Webb got the last word in the 17-lap main event. The defending champ led every lap to take the overall win, while Haaker tried catching him after a third-place start. Haaker slipped past Geoff Aaron for second place during the second lap but was already seven seconds behind his rival and things didn't get much bet- ter. He steadily lost time to Webb and trailed the defending champ by 14 seconds just before the halfway point. It wasn't until late in the race that Haaker starting pulling back distance between him and the leader, but by then it was too late. Webb ended up taking the checkered flag 5.2 seconds ahead of Haaker. "Reno was much better than last weekend," Webb said of his night. "With the injury earlier in the year, I was behind and trying to rely on talent and that wasn't enough. So I spent all week with Trystan Hart, Cooper Abbott and Cody Miller riding motos to get my intensity back and that helped." Haaker said, "The mistake I made in the heat race [missing the No Joke Lane], it was easy [to do that] tonight; I was so focused on the track that I just forgot to hit it. "In the main, I got an okay start and got to second pretty quick and tried to close on Cody. He was so good in the Matrix and jumping into the rocks that he was putting a couple of seconds on me there. I think I was making up time on the rest of the track but Colton Haaker took second in the main. Haaker and Webb are tied for the championship lead at the halfway point of the series.
