U.S. TEAM WINS VET MXON AT
FARLEIGH CASTLE
A
merican veteran racers once
again made the trek to Far-
leigh Castle to compete in the
Vet Motocross of Nations, and
were doubly triumphant in 2018,
taking both the Twin-shock and
Evo des Nations team wins.
The U.S. team of Doug Dubach, John Dowd
and Mike Brown added Ivan Tedesco to the roster
this year, and although Ivan had never raced a 500
two-stroke, or a twin-shock motorcycle, it proved to
be a good decision. The Americans triumphed over
the British team, led by Kurt Nicoll. Although the
Brits missed out on the overall in front of their home
crowd, Nicoll reported it was "the best Vet MXdN
he'd ever had" with three podiums in four races.
"The fans are amazing," Nicoll remarked. "They
were cheering me on every single straight. It was
like reliving old times."
Brown, Dowd and Dubach also raved about
the event, which saw perfect weather—a marked
change from last year's deluge. For Tedesco, it
was an all-new scene, but he already has plans to
return.
"Coming here I was nervous and I only got four
laps of practice," said Tedesco. "I had arm pump
the whole weekend! I couldn't believe how fast
some of these older guys are on these 500s. I
thought I'd come here and… I wouldn't say domi-
nate, but I thought I would have been better. Man,
these guys are awesome."
Ricky Johnson also made an appearance as
the guest of honor. "I loved it," said Johnson. "The
crowd needs to be proud of themselves for show-
ing up. The riders need to be proud of themselves
for racing as hard as they did. The bikes look phe-
nomenal. For me, it reminded me of going back in
time like it was at Maggiora."
Doug Dubach pulled triple duty, racing three
classes over the two-day event. Along with the
American team wins, Dubach dominated the 50+
Evo class. Mike Brown was also a force over the
weekend, battling with Nicoll, among others in his
second effort at the event.
"Last year when I went home I told everybody
this is probably one of the best events I've been
to," said Brown, "and this year, it's improved
probably double from last year. So it was a good
weekend!" CN
