very number-one plate giv-
en out in any given cham-
pionship represents years,
or even decades, of preparation
followed many months of doing
just about everything right—at
least compared to those who
don't get that plate. So when
a racer like Aaron Plessinger
(Monster Energy/Yamalube/
Star Racing Yamaha) clinches
a championship early, as he did
at Budds Creek after the first
moto, it's not uncommon for the
second moto to sort of fall apart.
After winning the first moto at
Budds Creek, all the years of
building, and then the months of
training, testing, eating right and
racing hard came flooding out of
him. The pressure was off. The
championship was over. And he
just sort of fell apart, finishing
11th place in moto two.
