Rich King was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 20 years ago
for winning the Route 66 Half Mile in Joliet, Illinois… We reported
the passing of Racer Production's Dave Coombs Sr. whose many
accomplishments in the motorcycling industry included founding
the AMA Amateur National MX Championship at Loretta Lynn's
Ranch, the GNCC and AMA Hare Scrambles Championships…
We also reported the passing of drag racer John Myers…
Branden Jesseman and Shane Bess made headlines at the
NMA GNC MX at Ponca City.

the winning Team Suzuki squad, was pictured on the front page…
Cycle News traveled to Mid-Ohio for the AMA Camel Pro/Superbike
Series where Bubba Shobert out dueled Doug Polen (who
eventually crashed out) for the win… American Billy Liles won the
500cc MXGP in San Marino. It was his first overall GP victory of his
career, and he did it with 1-3 scores on a Kawasaki… Yamaha again
won the Suzuka 8 Hour.
