SZOKE CLAIMS RECORD 13TH
CANADIAN SBK TITLE
J
ordan Szoke
captured his 13th
career Canadian
Superbike Champi-
onship. He didn't get
a win at the season-
ending doublehead-
er at Canadian Tire
Motorsports Park in
Bowmanville, On-
tario, August 11-12,
but his 3-4 finishes
over the weekend on
the Mopar Express
Lane BMW Motor-
rad S 1000 RR were
more than enough to
secure his fourth title
in a row and the 13th
of his career.
"Definitely one of the tougher
championships I've won, that's
for sure," he said. "But we
battled through, and it was a
tough race and a tough season.
It's been a bit of a rollercoaster
year, so this one means a lot.
"I partnered with BMW about
eight years ago, and we've now
won seven championships and
probably could have won eight,"
he said. "I've had a really great
run here with the team and the
bike, and it's been awesome."
Runner-up in the champion-
ship went to Ben Young (Barrie
BMW Scot-Build S 1000 RR),
who took his first career win on
Saturday. Szoke finished out the
year with 315 to Young's 273.
Third in the championship went
to Trevor Daley with 188 points.
Sunday saw another first-time
winner—Kenny Riedmann (Stur-
gess Cycle/Riedmann Manage-
ment Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R).
Riedman outdueled Saturday's
winner, Young, for the victory.
Szoke was in the mix as well but
slipped to fourth before it was all
over.
Young was thrilled to get his
first win on Saturday. "It feels
so awesome, I'm so happy. It's
just amazing," said an exhausted
Young. "I got a good start and
when I got in the lead I wanted
to see if I could break things up
a bit, but they all stayed really
close and I knew it was going to
be tough."
As for first-time winner Ried-
mann, he was nearly speech-
less. "I don't know what to
say, I'm kind of at a loss for
words. I'm just so happy," said
a choked-up Riedmann. "It was
pretty cool to just come out here
with no expectations, and just
ride and have fun. It was awe-
some." CN
