flag came out and got me a Iitde worried, with about two
laps to go, and I got a good restart and e nded up winning
the race ," Spencer Jr. said. "It was a great night and good
to have Spencer, Spencer, Spencer all on top.
Handlebars tangled as they hit tum one in the K&N
Filters Open Pro A main event, and Bricker got the
worst of it. His leg was trapped under his bike , and th e
red flag came out. The second try (complete restart)
had Casey and Sam Halbert come together in the tight
left-hander, leading to the infie ld . Casey went wide and
lost two pos itio ns. Wh en they crossed the stripe for the
first time , it was Sam Halbe rt in first followed by John
Hlebo , Jethro Halbe rt , Casey, and Rodney Spencer Jr.
That tight left-hander into the infield proved to be the
trickiest part of the trac k, as Jeth ro Halbert tried to get
unde r Hlebo for second and went down. One lap late r,
Hlebo, running in second, also laid it down in the same
left-hander.
Sam Halbert now had a big lea d, with Casey inherit ing second and Rodney Spencer Jr. in third. Another victim of that tight tum was Tom Carriger. Unfortunately
he was stuck to his bike and suffered some bad bums.
This brought out the red flag, and everybody was happy
except Sam Halbert. The ro lling restart closed Sam's
gap, but once under way he pulled away again. At the
crossed flags it was Sam Halbert, Casey, Rodney
Spencer [r., Mark Corsetti and Mike Bese mer. It looked
like Sam's night as he pulled away. Meanwhile Rodney
Spencer Jr. was applying pressure to Casey fo r second.
With four laps to go, all hell broke loo se . Sam
Halbert threw a chain as he exited the right-hander and
came toward the jump. He then caught the hay bales
leading to the jump and went down. His bike was right
on the track.
Casey, now with the lea d, had Rod Spencer Jr. challenging him on the outside of turns one and two.
Rodney Spencer Jr. made the pass, and Casey loo ked for
an opening as they entered the tight left-hand er. They
came together for a second , and Casey's bike lost fire.
Rodney Spencer Jr. led them home, with Corsetti and
Besemer finishing on the box. Jethro Halbert put in a
great ride afte r going down to finish fourth . Rod
Spence r Sr. was fifth.
"The night didn't start out so good," Spencer Jr. said.
"I was struggling, fell in my heat race and had to come
through the semi . I got a pretty good start from the second row, worked my way through and had a little help
from the guys' going down, giving me some spots. Then
Casey and me were having a good battle , and I finally
got by him, and we know what happened after that.
The Classic Vintage Twins class was won by
Mike Liendan on a BSA. Dan Phillips , David
Nicholson, Ray Byrne and Stu Ca rdott all followed
him ho me on Trium phs .
