VOL. 55 ISSUE 26 JULY 3, 2018 P65 fall was enough for Musquin to race by, and Tomac slowed it up for the remainder of the race. "I was just going a little bit too quick I guess," Tomac said. "I was in a really good groove. I was feeling it. It was weird though because I didn't feel like I was pushing the sketchy edge. I just maybe tapped my front brake on those braking bumps and then washed my front end out and kicked me over the bars there. So that was disappoint- ing. It knocked my clutch lever down and it affected a lot of control of my bike. I wasn't able to go back to my normal speed. HARTRANFT OUT Rookie Brandon Hartranft (Cycle- Trader/Rock River Yamaha) missed his first race of the outdoor series after suffering a dislocated shoulder while practicing Friday before the race. It is not yet known when he will return to action. JGR 250MX GUYS AutoTrader/Yoshimura/JGR Suzuki's Enzo Lopes was due to return to ac- tion at Southwick, but the fractured collarbone he suffered at High Point is still not healed enough for him to be back racing. He'll be a game-time decision for RedBud next weekend. And Southwick marked the home race for Lopes' 250MX teammate Jimmy Decotis, who ran as high as second in the first moto in his second race back after breaking his back in a huge crash at Daytona. He faded pretty hard in the first moto, and then in moto two his RM-Z250 got its radiator hose ripped off in a first-turn pile up, resulting in a DNF. SUZUKI'S JUSTINS Southwick marked the return to ac- tion for JGR Suzuki's Justin Bogle. This has been an incredibly trying year for Bogle, as he was hurt before the beginning of the Supercross series, then raced two rounds before getting hurt again at the San Diego Supercross, where he broke his humerus. He's been recovering ever since, but finally got back to action at Southwick, where he qualified 10th before grabbing the holeshot in both motos before ultimately finishing with an 18-20 moto score. His teammate Justin Hill went down off the start in moto one and came back to 21st place despite a nasty gash in his arm, but missed moto two altogether due to the injury. They should both be back at RedBud. WEBB RETURNS JGR Suzuki's Cooper Webb finally got back into the thick of it at South- wick after breaking his tibia way back at the Minneapolis Supercross. His starts weren't great, but he finished both motos in front of where he started, going 8-9 for eighth overall. He has 12 more motos to get back up to speed before switching teams to Red Bull KTM—at least that's the rumor. WISH COMES TRUE Team Honda HRC and Ken Roczen were pleased to work with the Make- A-Wish Foundation to host Jaiden Britt and his family at Southwick. After traveling from their Texas home on Friday, the Britts headed to The Wick 338 on Saturday morning by limousine, with a police escort orga- nized by Make-A-Wish volunteer Tom Convery. Once at the track, they had the chance to meet Roczen, who gifted Jaiden with a signed jersey, to tour the Honda tech truck, and to enjoy lunch with the team. BRACE TO RACE And speaking of Roczen, while he continues to make gains with his fitness, he's also experiencing progress with the aftereffects of his injuries. One small-but-appreciated step was the fact that he was able to switch from taping his right arm to using a wrist brace at Southwick. "Getting everything ready for the tape takes a lot of time, so I'm glad I was able to practice and race without tape this week," he said. Briefly... Tomac gets a face full of Southwick sand. A couple of small crashes in the second moto cost Tomac the overall victory.
