I knew Toni was behind me the last couple laps. I really tried to stay close to him that last lap and make the pass. I made a mistake going into turn one. But it was a good weekend. It was my best weekend so far this season." Mathew Scholtz (Yamalube/ Westby Racing), eighth after lap one, ended up fourth after also battling for the final podium spot. Ditto for Gerloff, the Texan hold- ing third for 14 laps before being caught and passed by Elias, Hayden and Scholtz. Gerloff ended up fifth. SUPERSPORT Sunday's Supersport race, the only one of the weekend, was a tale of two battles as champi- onship points leader JD Beach diced the whole race with Valentin much better than yesterday. Herrin's crash left the battle for second to fall to Elias, the Span- iard beating his teammate Roger Hayden to the line by 0.322 of a second. Elias rebounded from sev- eral mistakes that dropped him back as far as seventh on the 16th lap. "Today has been one of the more difficult races of my life," Elias said.
