VOL. 55 ISSUE 24 JUNE 19, 2018 P85
TWO TO SPARE
Championship leader Jared Mees now holds
a 59-point margin over Henry Wiles, which
is over a two-race lead, and the margin
keeps growing every week. Brad Baker is
still in third, 20 points behind Wiles. Kenny
Coolbeth and Jeffrey Carver round out the
top five. In the AFT Singles points race,
Dan Bromley is also pulling well clear of his
challengers. Bromley now holds a 46-point
lead over Ryan Wells with Kolby Carlile
another three points back. Shayna Texter, the
injured Brandon Price and Jesse Janisch are
grouped together in the next three positions.
DRAMA & HEARTBREAK
The day was filled with drama and heartbreak.
Jeffrey Carver's failure to finish one lap of the
twins main was major. JR Addison (King Fam-
ily/Tony Westbrook Kawasaki Ninja 650) had
a truly up-and-down weekend. They broke
down on their way to Oklahoma and were
rescued by Cole Zabala. Addison was in a
solid fifth place in his semi, and would have
had a spot in the national, when his Kawasaki
called it quits just before the end of the race.
In the AFT Singles main, Tristan Avery (Ron
Ayers/Mr. Sign Honda CRF450R), who has
become somewhat of a "Mile" specialist, had
his exhaust break on the warm-up lap thus
ending his day.
HARD RUBBER
The unusually abrasive track resulted in
American Flat Track mandating the Twins
riders use Dunlop R10's and Singles riders
use Dunlop R8s. "The track was abrasive on
the tires, but there were no problems with
them," said Jared Mees. "The 10's compound
is harder. It was a good call. I don't think
we could have run 25 laps on the CD 8's."
Unfortunately Kevin Stollings ran afoul of the
tire rule after winning his heat race with a
Dunlop CD5 on his Roof Systems of Dallas/
Honda CRF450R. He was disqualified for the
remainder of the program.
Briefly...
Bryan Smith was
happy to finish out
the night on the
podium.
