BOU REACHES 99 CAREER WINS WITH
ANDORRA VICTORY
S
pain's Toni Bou (Repsol Hon-
da) recorded his 99th career
World Championship victory after
topping round three of the 2018
FIM TrialsGP Championship in
Andorra, June 16-17.
The historic win came in front
of the Montesa-mounted "home"
fans and it equals the 99 victo-
ries also put up by seven-time
world champion Dougie Lamp-
kin. Bou's second win of the sea-
son also puts him seven points
ahead of championship rival
Jeroni Fajardo (GasGas Factory
Racing).
Bou displayed top form on
the day in spite of the sections
not being the most demanding
in a trial where any errors paid
dearly. A five in section 11 on the
first lap threw the trial wide open
before Bou eventually completed
the first lap in second place
overall. An impressive ride on the
final lap saw the current champ
put the pressure on rivals, who
took maximums in some rather
unexpected places. The victory
was accomplished in the last of
the 30 sections by a mere two
point-advantage over Spain's
Albert Cabestany (Beta Factory
Racing).
A further two points back
came Fajardo, followed by Jaime
Busto (GasGas Factory Racing)
and Adam Raga (TRS Factory
Team).
The top five riders all hail from
Spain.
"I am very happy with this
victory here in Andorra," said
Bou who is still recovering from
a pre-series back injury. "It's
been a tough weekend, with lots
of nerves and a lot of pressure,
but we've finally won. Today I
felt very good on the bike and
my back did not bother me,
which is very positive to be able
to continue improving like that.
This is a very important victory
both for the championship and
for my morale. To reach victory
number 99 is impressive and
now we have to work to achieve
100 victories. I keep saying that
this will be a very complicated
year for me but we will continue
fighting." CN
