LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 3 / JULY 2, 2018
THUNDER VALLEY PARK / LAKEWOOD, CALIFORNIA

tion. So when the
gate dropped and
Justin Barcia (Mon-
ster Energy Factory
Yamaha) blasted to
the lead, with Tomac
in tow, most felt it
was just a matter of time before the
Coloradan would take over. But Barcia
was setting an incredible pace, stay-
ing ahead of a hard-charging Tomac.
Barcia looked absolutely comfortable,
riding with an uncanny smoothness for
the usually wild Yamaha rider.
But 11 minutes into the moto, "Bam
Bam," continuing to rebuff repeated
attacks by Tomac, came over the finish
hill to see the red flag. Kyle Chisholm
had crashed. Barcia's body language
said it all; total disbelief and bewilder-
round with a perfect record, only to
crash in the second moto (after win-
ning the first) that resulted in season-
ending injuries. This time, no such
disaster. Not even close.
Meanwhile, the 250MX class pro-
vided excellent racing all day, high-
lighted by another brotherly duel in the
second moto between Alex and Jeremy
Martin. Similar to last week's second
moto at Glen Helen, Jeremy out-dueled
his older brother Alex, which ultimately
resulted in the overall win.
450MX
Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki)
doesn't need any advantages, but the
Colorado native is perhaps better ac-
climated to the draining effect of racing
a motorcycle at its one-mile eleva-
Eli Tomac came from
behind to win both
450MX motos.
(Above) Blake
Baggett (4) was
hoping for a repeat
win at Colorado but
had to be satisfied
with third; Marvin
Musquin (25) was
fourth overall.
