FLAT TRACK AMERICAN FLAT TRACK SERIES ROUND 7 / MAY 28, 2018 ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUNDS / SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS P90 iii My Own Race: 67 DAVIS FISHER 4TH AFT TWINS "It was a lot of fun. I'm trying to get a lot of experience on these miles. It was a good race to take away and bring back home and study," said Davis Fisher. "I got a decent start, for the first time this year. I saw Carver up front charging and I figured I would stick back where I was and try to save my tire and learn. I should have probably darted out there with Carver and attached with him throughout the race. He just kind of walked away from us. I caught him and put down one of the fastest laps. On the last lap, into three, I tried to go around the outside of Kenny. He moved me up just a touch and I was on the outside of the groove. I didn't want to lose any positions behind me, so I got back in line. I lost a little bit there and couldn't get into the draft at the finish. They have a lot of years on me and I'm just trying to learn. It's a big improvement from last year. I got fifth last year, but I kind of faded and wasn't in the draft too much then." 4 BRYAN SMITH 5TH AFT TWINS "I just got a shitty start. [Until then] I was nailing the start all day," said Bryan Smith. "I didn't have the best pick on the front row, but I thought I would ease it off the line and follow the guys for a bit. Obviously, I followed a lot of guys for the first couple laps [10th on lap one]. I wasn't panicking too bad. The front pack wasn't really getting away from me. I cleared the guys and had a little bit of a gap and ran them down. As soon as I got to the lead pack, I got sucked into turn one and the brakes were gone. That was probably on lap 10 or maybe even before that. I just about went off the end of the groove. I thought, 'okay, I can't get into the corner as hard as them.' Usually you don't use your brakes that much here, but when you get sucked into the draft you have to. You need a little bit of insurance that you are not going to run into them or run off the groove. As soon as that hap- pened, I was kind of in survival mode. The brakes kind of came back a little bit and I was going to make a move, and boom, they were gone again. [Then] probably on the last five laps, something went wrong with the bike. It started cutting out or missing. I lost everything at that point. I was happy just to finish because the last lap it was cutting out all the way around the track." 49 CHAD COSE 6TH AFT TWINS "I got a bad start. I think I might have been 12th, maybe worse," said Chad Cose. "The bike setup really came in. My mechanic, Tom Englehart, turned the bike upside down from yesterday to today. For the main event, that was the best- working bike I've had at Springfield, ever. I've got to credit him a lot. He really knew what to do. I really think that if we had gotten off with the lead pack, I would have been able to stay with them. That's kind of the nature of the game. You've got to worry about track position when you are talking about top five. It's my best Springfield finish ever. I'm going to take that and keep this ball rolling into next week. We finished eighth two weeks ago. We finished seventh last week and sixth this week. I want a top five or podium. Eventually, we want to win. Carver just proved that a privateer effort can win on these bikes. That's our next goal for sure."
