BANG, BANG GOES YAMAHA'S GUN
IN DONINGTON WORLDSBK
T
he official Pata Yamaha
WorldSBK team is an impres-
sive and experienced effort, with
ex-GP and longtime WorldSBK
talents behind the scenes, and
two fast and relatively young
riders desperate to succeed
against the previously all-con-
quering red and green bikes.
The Donington Park WorldS-
BK round, May 26-27, saw the
blue boys on the podium with
Michael van der Mark delivering
his 15th—and then 16th—career
podium finishes, and both were
finally wins for the Tuning Fork
brand.
Donington was only predict-
able up to race one. Tom Sykes
(Kawasaki Racing Team) started
from pole and would be on the
podium, and lead for much of
the race after he had caught and
overhauled teammate Jona-
than Rea in an aggressive fight
between the two top Kawasaki
men.
But it was to be Michael van
der Mark who would come
through, pass them both, hold
off the attack of Rea, and hold
his nerve to win and send the
Yamaha camp crazy with joy.
His pace and confidence were
a joy to watch, and even though
all the top riders were slithering
