up Musquin. "I had to pass
Jason and a couple other guys
before Jason. It was really hard
to pass. We got some rain this
morning. The main line is good
and if you switch lines, you're in
the deep stuff and you lose time.
So yeah, I sat a little bit behind
Jason and then I got him and
then I fought hard to come back
to Ken, and then Eli was gone.
He was fast. It was a hard fight
and I got second, so it's pretty
good considering the start and
the passes I had to make."
"We put up a good fight out
there," Roczen said. "Obviously
I was holding up Eli, but I tried
the hardest I can. Even when he
don't even remember where it is
now, somewhere. But anyway,
it was a fun battle with him. I
was able to get by him after that
halfway point. Just kept hammer-
ing down."
Tomac immediately put time
on the field, eventually win-
ning by over 12 seconds, while
Roczen soon had to deal with
Musquin. Musquin got Roczen
for second with just three laps
to go, and then Roczen backed
it down and rode it in for third,
which was a very encouraging
race for the returning rider.
"All the top guys were ahead
of me, so I'm like, 'Oh, it's going
to be a tough one,'" said runner-
Tomac really began putting
the pressure on Roczen right
about the time that Musquin
was doing likewise to Anderson.
Musquin passed Anderson for
the spot just past the halfway
point, and Tomac relegated
Roczen to second about a lap
later, when Roczen seemed to
consciously relent to the pres-
sure.
"I had a great battle with Ken
there," Tomac said. "We were
just really going back and forth.
I mean, not for position, but for
lines. He would sneak away a
little bit; I would catch him. And
then I was finally able to get
around him on the—actually I
Marvin Musquin looked
fast but couldn't match
Tomac's speed.
