IN THE WIND P42 HERLINGS, PRADO TOP TEUTSCHENTHAL MXGP R ed Bull KTM's Jeffrey Her- lings and Jorge Prado came away with the MXGP and MX2 wins at round eight of the FIM Motocross World Champion- ship in Teutschenthal, Germany, May 20. Herlings crushed the field in the MXGP class in both races, while Prado swapped motos wins with Red Bull KTM teammate Pauls Jonass in MX2; Prado topped the tie-breaking second moto. Herlings absolutely dominated both MXGP motos, taking the checkered flag by more than 15 seconds over Tim Gajser (Honda HRC) each time. (He actually fin- ished nearly 30 seconds ahead of Gajser in the second race.) In both motos, Herlings flew past holeshotter Gautier Paulin (Husqvarna) before the first lap was over and roosted away from the pack for the victory. "Both races the riding was really good, I couldn't wish for anything else," Herlings said. "I led every single lap both today and this weekend, so I'm very pleased…it was a dream come true kind of weekend." Gajser went 2-2 for second overall, while Paulin ended up third overall with a pair of third- place finishes. Clement Desalle (Kawasaki) and Romain Febvre (Yamaha) rounded out the top five overall. Defending champion Antonio Cairoli saw his chance of retain- ing the number-one plate take another hit with 6-5 moto finish- es for sixth overall. Cairoli now trails his teammate, Herlings, by 48 points, 386-338. Desalle is third in the championship but 60 points behind Cairoli. In MX2, Jonass shot to the front after passing Prado early in the race and held him off to the finish, crossing the finish line just 1.42 seconds ahead of his KTM teammate. In moto two, Prado and Jonass rubbed elbows for the holeshot, and it was again Prado getting to the line first. This time, however, Prado kept Jonass at bay and went on to win the moto by more than five seconds over Jonass. Prado said, "The first race was quite tough and in the second race I knew the start was really important, I don't know what happened off the gate… but I went into Pauls a little bit and we kind of fought into the first corner to see who would get the hole- shot but I was on the inside and after that I could just lead every lap so I'm pretty happy." Jonass, however, is still in command of the MX2 Champi- onship, maintaining a 22-point cushion over Prado. Third on the day went to South African Calvin Vlaanderen (Honda), followed by Brit Ben Watson and Australian Jed Bea- ton (Kawasaki). American Thomas Covington suffered crashes in both motos.
