T
he second round of the AMA
West ISDE Qualifier Series
ventured into the mountains
above Lakeport, California for
the Sawmill ISDE 2-Day Quali-
fier, May 12-13. North Bay M.C.
provided 65 miles of trail, with
six tests mixed in per day. In all,
31 riders were hoping to qualify
for the seven open spots up for
grabs on the U.S. ISDE Club
Teams.
On day one, Ty Tremaine
topped two tests, finishing 38
seconds ahead of RPM/KTM's
Dante Oliviera. The two riders
came into this round tied on
points, so every test win was
crucial.
Local AMA/D-36 racer Anson
Maloney came in third on the day
another minute and a half back.
The final test threw a wrench
in many riders' day. A few deep
creek crossings snagged a num-
ber of riders, including Six Five 0
GasGas-backed Travis Coy and
SRT Off-Road's JT Baker who
were both running strong all day
only to drown their bikes in a hid-
den deep spot.
The day ended with a 15-min-
ute work period and impound for
riders to reground and get ready
for another 65-mile day and
another six tests. Day two was
much different, with Baker taking
the win in three tests and the top
score for the second half of the
event. Privateer Kendall Norman
had a similarly good ride, taking
second on the day just six sec-
onds back. Tremaine took third,
which was good enough to take
the overall win.
Canadian Cory Gruffunder
(SRT Off-Road) entered the AA
class and waxed the competi-
tion, taking the overall both days
and the AA victory. Maloney took
the second qualifying position
on the day, with DA8 Racing's
Destry Abbott finishing third and
becoming the second Senior
Club Team rider qualifier. He
won every test over the weekend
in the E4 class.
