LOOKING BACK
We called him San Diego's fastest
dealer/racer and he was pictured on
the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago.
Don Vesco was a class winner and
the overall runner-up at Orange County
International Raceway's AFM road racing
meet in Southern California… Carson
City, Nevada, was the point of interest for
our latest motorcycle touring adventure
story… We covered the brutal 175-mile
National Championship Enduro in Shelby,
Indiana. The overall winner was Bill Baird
aboard a Triumph.
Alex Jorgensen was pictured celebrating on the cover 40 years ago
after winning the Ascot Half Mile, and so was Skip Aksland for taking
over the Camel Pro Series points lead… Bob Hannah was hitting
his stride after winning the AMA Toyota Supercross in Pittsburgh.
He moved into a tie for the points lead with Marty Tripes… Kenny
Roberts won the Austrian 500cc GP and was closing in on points
leader Barry Sheene… Brad Lackey lost the French GP to Heikki
Mikkola based on aggregate time.
