LOOKING BACK
We were impressed by Tommy
Rockwood's performance at the Ascot
Half Mile, the amateur racer won his fourth
race in a row and was rewarded with a
photo on the front page of Cycle News 50
years ago… Motocross was going strong
at Castaic Park in California, where Russ
Darnell and Gary Bailey were tearing it
up… We covered scrambles racing from
Castle Rock in Washington State. Cappy
Skene was one of the big winners.
We used the cover to stress the importance of getting—and staying—
involved in the fight to keep land available for outdoor recreational
use in California… Second-year expert Garth Brow came from
behind to win the GNC/Camel Pro Series round at the San Jose
Mile… Broc Glover (125cc) and Bob Hannah (250cc) won the AMA/
Mr. PiBB 125/250cc National MX at Southwick… Jim Fishback won
the Fort Hood ISDT Qualifier in Texas… Kenny Roberts topped the
Formula 750 World Championship Road Race at Brands Hatch.
