P130 50 Years Ago MAY 23, 1968 LOOKING BACK Our "special desert issue" featured Bultaco- mounted Larry Bergquist on the cover while racing at the Foothill Hawks Hare Scrambles in the Mojave Desert; Mike Patrick was the overall winner… We covered the Shamrocks' 8th Annual Enduro, also held in the Mojave Desert. In the 120-mile long enduro, Dick Chase, riding a Norton Twin, dropped just two points and captured the overall win… We also covered the Pacific Southwest Championship Hare Scrambles near Red Mountain, California; Mike Patrick won… We showed you the bikes from the Cycle World Show. Honda-mounted Brad Lackey won the second round of the 500cc World Championship MX Series in Austria and was featured on the cover 40 years ago. It was just his second GP win ever and it movedt him up to within two points of championship leader and defending champ Heikki Mikkola… We covered the 125/250 MX National at Omaha Moto Park in Nebraska. Mark Barnett (125cc) and Bob Hannah (250cc) scored the wins… Pat Hennen won the 500cc GP at Jarama… Frank Gallo won the Alabama 2-Day. 40 Years Ago MAY 10, 1978 (Left) Josh Hill won the 60cc Stock and Modified (6-8) classes at the World Mini GP in Las Vegas in 1998. (Below) Suzuki's Pat Hennen won the Spanish 500cc Grand Prix 40 years ago.
