DIAMOND DON'S VINTAGE MX
E
ven a Texas-style Tornado
could not keep the racers
off the track at Diamond Don's
16th Annual International Vintage
Motocross, in Jefferson, Texas,
April 12-15.
The Jefferson Railway &
Wetlands Foundation held three
fundraisers during the four-day
event, raising more than $6000.
They included a charity golf skills
challenge, a raffle for a vintage
bike built by Scott Sears and a
live auction for motocross memo-
rabilia. The money will be used to
support youth activities in Jef-
ferson, Texas. The Foundation is
sponsoring students to the Day of
Learning—Civil War Living History
on May 4. They will help sponsor
Summer Adventure in Learning
(SAIL Program) directed by Dr. G.
Arcolia Jenkins.
There were a total of 850 race
entries at Diamond Don's, slightly
down from last year most likely due
to torrential rains on Friday eve-
ning. However, overall attendance
was up this year with more than
1200 people through the gates.
The weekend was full of
international motocross legends,
including several Motorcycle Hall
of Fame inductees. Barry Hig-
gins, Trey Jorski and Trampas
Parker each took first place in
their respective classes.
Moto legend Brad Lackey
designed and sold the event T-
shirts with Texas' own Steve Wise
(three-time U.S. champion) hold-
ing a church service on Sunday
morning.
H&H Music Racing Team was
honored as this year's event
"Legend for the Weekend."
Started in 1970, by Clint Hackney
Jr, the H&H Music Racing team
was an offshoot of the Houston,
Texas-based H&H Music Com-
pany. In its first year of racing, the
team was soon dominating races
all around the city. The team
started out with Kevin Brown and
the Hanna family—Fred, Bobby,
Cecile and Dottie. Then came
Robert Tuggle, Don Rainey, Jake
DeBoe and Bo Kock.
Music super star Lyle Lovett
was instrumental in getting the
old team back together and on
the track again.
In the 100cc "Battle on the
Bayou" some of the fastest Vin-
tage racers in the USA lined up
to do battle. After a full day of rac-
ing, Trampas Parker took home
the first-place trophy with wins in
both motos. CN
Nearly 900 entries
we filled out at
the Diamond Don
Vintage MX races in
Jefferson, Texas.
