ROAD RACE
ROUND 2 / APRIL 20-22, 2018
CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS / AUSTIN, TEXAS
P80
MOTOAMERICA CHAMPIONSHIP
Scholtz, taking the holeshot
and charging to a 10.068-sec-
ond victory over Beaubier and
Gerloff.
The 2017 champion made it
look easy on his factory Suzuki,
controlling the race from the
start as the top three spread
out, separated by 14 seconds at
the flag.
"Today, the main goal was
win," Elias said. "This is a good
track for me, and for our bike,
so we try to make some differ-
ence today."
The real drama focused on
the battle for fourth place be-
tween Herrin, Scholtz and Jake
Lewis, the three privateer teams
having a proper race-long tussle
that would see fourth eventually
go to Herrin from Lewis, with a
furious Scholtz throwing his fist
on the tank after suffering a me-
chanical issue on the final lap.
Yoshimura Suzuki's Roger
Hayden had a dismal weekend
by his standards, retiring in race
one with a mechanical issue
and finishing a distant seventh
in race two, some 32 seconds
behind his teammate Elias at the
flag.
Danny Eslick bought the
Hayes Brakes BMW home in
eighth place in race two ahead
of David Anthony with Cameron
Peterson (Genuine Broaster
Chicken Honda) taking the final
place in the top 10. CN
