ROAD RACE ROUND 2 / APRIL 20-22, 2018 CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS / AUSTIN, TEXAS P78 MOTOAMERICA CHAMPIONSHIP had for his KWR Yamaha Superbike from last year don't work this year because of the pavement dust left over from surface grinding. "The track is just totally different," Wyman said. "It's strange, I'm losing the front end and tucking it nearly every lap. It's a challenge to ride the way you want to, that's for sure." PETERSON GOOD TO GO Cameron Petersen was back on board the Genuine Broaster Chicken Honda Superbike at COTA after suffering a hard crash at Road Atlanta. Petersen went through concussion protocol and said he passed all the tests and was allowed to ride. "I'm still not 100 percent, but I'm glad to be back on the bike," Petersen said. "My neck and shoul- der are still a little sore, but once I'm warmed up it's not too bad." TAKING THE BLAME During Saturday's wet first race of the weekend, long-time leader Josh Herrin was having noticeable vis- ibility problems with his Bell helmet, lifting the visor up when riding down the front straight while trying to keep a charging Mathew Scholtz at bay. But rather than take a stab at Bell Helmets for having a visor fog up, the former AMA Superbike Cham- pion laid the blame squarely at his feet. "I think I just breathed really heavy!" Herrin said with a laugh. "I always have a problem. It [the visor] fogged up a little bit. I was breathing pretty crazy. I was kind of excited. I think it's my fault because no other Bell guy has that problem besides me ever. I got an issue going on there." NEW RAIN MASTER? Mathew Scholtz claimed a second MotoAmerica win in race one on Saturday in the rain, with many now calling the South African the new rain master. But despite coming from a country with little rainfall throughout the year, Scholtz still claimed to have a huge amount of experience riding in adverse condi- tions. "I was in Europe for a long, long time and had a lot of practice there," he said. "I was in the Red Bull Rookies Cup for three years, then went to the Spanish Champi- onship in Moto2, and to the World Supersport for two years. So, I've had a lot of practice in the rain. I feel comfortable in it." Briefly... It all went bad for Cameron Beaubier in race one, but he remounted for third.
