Third place went to Ashton Yates on his Yates Racing Yama- ha, who became the first Mo- toAmerica rider to podium in two different classes on the same day. Earlier in the day, Yates had won the Liqui Moly Junior Cup race on his Kawasaki Ninja 400. Anthony Mazziotto III (YCRS/ Mazziotto Racing) and Richie Escalante (Quicksilver/LEXIN/ Hudson Motorcycles) rounded out the top five. Gillim and Beach are tied at the top of the points tree at 45 apiece, 21 ahead of West who took eighth in race two. MOTOAMERICA CHAMPIONSHIP them both to restart the race. Gillim came back hard in a wet race two on his purple Rickdicu- lous Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 to take a commanding 11.796-sec- ond win after taking the lead from Beach on lap four. "I wish I could have put up more of a fight yesterday with JD there at the end of the race," Gillim said. "It would have made it a little bet- ter show for everybody, but I didn't have anything for him. I like the rain. Whenever there's rain in the forecast, I'm secretly in the back praying and hoping that it comes down. Today was awesome. It's my first win in four years, and it's on a 600 again, and I am lov- ing riding this thing. Hopefully it We've been running into that all weekend. There are some guys out there who are making it unsafe for us, and it's a tough situation. But all in all, I'm glad to get this win." For Gillim, second place on his return to Supersport competi- tion after running his own Super- stock 1000 program on a Suzuki GSX-R1000 last year was a good result, as he held off West, Nick McFadden (M4 medAge Suzuki) and Braeden Ortt (Tuned Racing Yamaha) at the flag. Ortt was part of the first red flag when he crashed and took Hayden Gillim with him, however, a second crash involving Cali- fornian Michael Gilbert bought out another red flag and allowed Beach just managed to hold off Gillim (69) in race one, with Cory West (36) making a podium return in third.
