CHAMPIONSHIP VOL. 55 ISSUE 15 APRIL 17, 2018 P67 it's a great way to cap off the night." Musquin ended up third overall with a 7-1-2 score. Anderson now leads the title chase by 39 points with only three rounds left to run, with Musquin second and Tomac third, 26 points behind Musquin. Forkner said. "I've gone through them before and know I can come back strong on the other side of this." TOMAC/BRADSHAW AGAIN Minneapolis marked the 20th 450SX win of his career for Eli Tomac, and he has now won more main events in the premier class than any racer in history who has never won a title in the class. The previous record was held by Da- mon Bradshaw at 19. THE FAT LADY'S WARMING UP Jason Anderson is on the precipice of delivering the first AMA Supercross Championship in history for Husqvarna. In Minneapolis, he extended his points lead to 39 over Marvin Musquin, which means all he has to do is finish inside the top 10 at all three remaining rounds to clinch the title. "I just need to keep putting myself in good positions," Ander- son said. "I really want to finish out the season being on the podium, battling for wins, and I think I've been doing that. Last week in Seattle was a mudder, but we were able to battle for that win. Tonight, I feel like that one mistake cost me a little bit, and I wasn't able to pull off the win, but I'm right there, and I'm just trying to keep it going. I'm really enjoying myself, and it feels nice to be up here a lot, and I just want to keep it going." TALKING CHAMPIONSHIP Jason Anderson talked about what it's like owning the points lead for so many months now. "The hardest part about it is during the week," Ander- son said. "Honestly, during the week, you're thinking about it a lot. But, once the race day comes, I haven't really struggled with it too much. I feel like I go into race mode; my whole goal is to be the hunter not the hunted and that should be my outlook every time. I don't know points management, I'm just try- ing to race. Thinking about it during the week is very stressful." STRUGGLING WITH STARTS Zach Osborne admitted afterward that his is getting frustrated with his bad starts. "In the first race I felt like I was pretty good going into the first turn but I came out like eighth or ninth, and that set me way back. I've worked so hard on my starts in recent weeks and I was just pretty demoralized and I got fourth. In the second main, I got crossed up pretty bad by someone to the right of me and I was pretty ticked off and went into the second turn hot and came out pretty good. The third main I got off to a good start but got messed up passing Osby. I just wish one time I could get off to a holeshot and just make tracks." SLIPPERY WHEN FROZEN After qualifying sixth in the 250SX class, Kyle Peters suffered a knee injury that didn't even happen on the track that prevented him from competing in the evening program. "Peters crashed on the way to the stadium for the final qualifying session," said team manager Jeremy Albrecht. "He hit a patch of ice and went down. He got tangled up in the bike and suffered a knee injury." Pe- ters said, "Without warning, I crashed in the ice and snow on the way to the final qualifying session and injured my knee. I tried to suit up and race, but the pain was too much. Hopefully I receive good news about my condition and can line up for Foxborough [next] weekend." Briefly... Justin Barcia returned to action following an injury and looked strong.
