Our cover story 50 years ago was the
upcoming Cycle World International
Motorcycle Show that was parking itself
inside the Los Angeles Sports Arena…
We covered the second round of the
Texas Road Racing Circuit in San Angelo,
where a young Mike Kidd won twice on
a 100cc Yamaha and a 175cc Bultaco.
No one could catch him or the cast that
he was wearing on his left arm from a
previous injury… We also covered the
Annual Trail Race at Squaw Peak in
Phoenix, Arizona.
A turbo-powered Kawasaki Z1-R was featured on the cover of Cycle News 40
years ago… We covered the 125/250cc National MX at Racing World MX in
Trabuco Canyon, California. Broc Glover (125cc) and Bob Hannah (250cc)
came away with the wins… Teammates Larry Roeseler and Jack Johnson won
the Las Vegas 400… Wayne Rainey won the Junior class at the Tulare AMA Pro
Half Mile…. Johnny Cecotto won the Formula 750 World Championship Road
Race at Imola… Lane Leavitt dominated the National Trials at Saddleback.
