from second to seventh before
working his way back forward
again, but the damage was
done. "On the restart, I just got
a good jump and just tried to
get away," said Price. "On the
last lap, I looked back and there
was about a half a corner gap,
so I felt pretty good going to the
finish line."
a commanding 19-point lead over
Kenny Coolbeth and Henry Wiles.
Brad Baker is another five points
back with Jake Johnson and Briar
Bauman tied 27 points back of Mees.
Dan Bromley holds the points lead
in the AFT Singles race by eight over
Brandon Price while Jesse Janisch is
third 15 points off first. Oliver Brindley
and Ryan Wells fill out the top five
positions.
GOING BIG
With the series returning to Texas
Motor Speedway and a similar, but
slightly larger racetrack, two Harley-
Davidson pilots (one "old school"
XR750 and one new XG750R) are
looking to improve on their good
results. "We will be more towards
the front," said Jarod Vanderkooi of
the XG750R. "I am definitely super
comfortable on the motorcycle. It
fits me. The tank and seat, I just feel
at home with it. In the past, I've had
different chassis and such that just
felt a little awkward with me. They are
able to give me whatever I want, even
the footpeg location, just whatever
I want. I like these stock-car tracks.
I feel it is pretty much time for me to
start showing something. There are
guys like Coolbeth that have multiple
years on me. At the same time, we
are still learning and having fun with
the team."
CARVING OUT A PLAN
"We'll get back to the drawing board
and do some more testing before
the next race," said Jeffrey Carver.
"We'll figure out what we could have
done better and try to win again.
"We're planning to run the Indian on
the miles. We're probably going to
run it at some of the other races. We
thought for the start of the first two
races on the half miles that we would
continue with the momentum we
have with the XRs. We've done some
testing on the Indian and we want
to get back to the drawing board.
It gives us enough time before the
season kicks off and we will be rac-
ing every weekend. We're just trying
to play our cards right and be smart.
Both the Harleys are brand new this
winter. We've got friends helping
out."
BONSEY IS BACK
Stevie Bonsey made his debut on the
Dillard Family Racing/Lloyd Brothers
Ducati Monster 821. The small, slick
racetrack proved to be a challenge
for the fledgling team. Bonsey posted
the 25th-fastest time in qualifying,
but that was just seven tenths of a
second away from JD Beach's fast
time. A seventh-place finish in his
heat moved him on to what would
be day two and a ride on an even
slicker racetrack for their semi. Their
weekend concluded with a 13th-
place finish.
