Fifty years ago, Motorcycle Racers,
Inc. board members and Ascot Park
promoter J.C. Agajanian got together
to discuss ways of making motorcycle
racing better for both participants and
fans. After months of negotiations, they
came to an agreement that was firmed
up with a handshake… We covered the
Mint 400 Rally and we were excited
that motorcycles swept the first four
positions overall; J.N. Roberts was first
to cross the finish line… Ralph Barger,
president of the Oakland chapter of the
Hells Angels MC, testified against the
proposed helmet law in California.
An image of Broc Glover was featured on the cover of Cycle News 40
years ago for winning the 125cc class at the opening round of the AMA/Mr.
PiBB National Championship MX at Hangtown… Lane Leavitt and Marland
Whaley traded wins at the AMA/NATC National Trials in Auburn, California…
Pat Hennen and Kenny Roberts were the fastest at the John Player
Trans-Atlantic Trophy Series at Brands Hatch, but Team Britain came away
victorious… 300 riders started but only 19 finished the Tecate 500 Enduro.
