Webb, down in fifth, had some ground
to make up and within four laps had
caught up to Blazusiak and Bolt. Then
drama struck with Bolt hitting the rear
of Blazusiak on the tire, sparking a
three-rider crash involving Webb.
Scrambling to regroup, Blazusiak kept
the lead from Bolt to win, as Webb
dropped back to fourth behind defend-
ing champ Colton Haaker (Rockstar
Energy Husqvarna).
Another fifth-place start by Webb
in race two kept things exciting as
Blazusiak chased him down. Bolt led
but swapped positions with Lettenbi-
chler. On a charge, Blazusiak cut past
Webb, and with four laps to go was
on Bolt's rear wheel as Webb hung in
fourth. Then disaster struck for Bla-
zusiak when his shock rapidly failed.
Despite his best efforts to continue,
he was ruled out, as Webb rode on to
third and with it the world crown.
"I was riding really tight tonight—
I think because of my nerves—and
Taddy was pushing so hard," admitted
Webb. "He had some bad luck but I've
had a couple of bad rounds too. I think
that's the way this series has gone—
everyone has had great nights and
equally bad ones.
"It was such a relief to cross the
finish line as world champion, I've
worked towards this goal for so long
now. I can't thank everyone enough for
their support and belief in helping me
return to this series for 2018 and get
the job done."
For Blazusiak, hopes of a seventh
world crowned slipped from his grasp
despite his best efforts. True to form,
Taddy gave it everything he had.
