VOL. 55 ISSUE 12 MARCH 27, 2018 P39 Lucas Mahias (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) arrived at the exit of the final right-hander on exactly the same asphalt, and hit each other hard. Some may have felt aggrieved, but not these two, with even the second place rider (by only 0.048 sec- onds) Mahias saying later, "For me, no problem—it's racing." Krummenacher's second career WorldSSP race win came after he had to let the fastest men go at it early on, as he could not break through a certain barrier of pace, even with fresh tires. "In the beginning, it was a bit difficult but we knew that because we had this strategy," said the rejuvenated Krummenacher. "I managed to keep Lucas behind be- cause he did a great maneuver. It was important for me to win to demonstrate that, 'hey, guys, I am here!' So let's keep working hard and continue like this." Krummenacher had moved from fourth in mid-race to third, then second and then the lead, only having to fend off Mahias as third placed Federico Cari- casulo (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) and fourth-placed charger Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing Yamaha) were a second and more behind. It was an excellent end to a great podium scrap, but the final quality would have been even better had Jules Cluzel (NRT Yamaha) not fallen from a leading position on lap 13 of 17. Behind the podium contestants, almost nine seconds behind Krumme- nacher came local wild card Thitipong Warokorn (Core Kawasaki Thailand Rac- ing) in fifth place from Anthony West. In the championship Krummenacher and Mahias are tied for the lead at 45 points each, Caricasulo is third with 29, Cortese fourth at 29 and De Rosa fifth. Gordon Ritchie WSBK RACE ONE 1.
