(Below) Dave Campos, from Albuquerque,
N.M., was one of the many participates at the
Lions Drag Festival 50 years ago.
Wayne Gardner was featured on the cover of Cycle News 30 years
ago to accompany our preview of the 1988 World Championship
Road Race Series… We interviewed three-time world champion
Freddie Spencer… We covered the GNC International Motocross
Final from Lake Whitney, Texas, where Mike Kiedrowski and Chad
Pederson did most of the impressing… Randy Hawkins was the big
winner at the Cherokee National Enduro in Georgia… Ted Hunnicutt
won the Wild Hare Hare & Hound in Lucerne Valley, California.
The focus key word 20 years ago was "cruisers," and that was
no joke. We checked out and tested some of the hottest rumblers
of the time in our special cruiser issue… We covered the opening
round of the 1998 FIM World Superbike Championship at Phillip
Island. The winners? Carl Fogarty and Noriyuki Haga… Jeremy
McGrath won the Minneapolis Supercross… We covered Ty
Davis' win at the Desert Mountain National Enduro in Wickenburg,
Arizona… Ernesto Fonseca topped the GNC International MX
Final at Mosier Valley USA in Texas.
